I say: “Happy Birthday Dina! She’s so sweet. I remember one time, they had closed RUSH super early and all us kiddies were on the street bitching about where to go. Suddenly, homegirl comes out, grabs my hand and leads a twink march of about 20 people into SPLASH and she used her charms to get people in for free. I am Jamaican-ish. Well, half Jamaican. From time to time, I am asked about my position when it comes to Jamaica and the country’s widepsread homophobia. I usually pause and respond with a simple response: I think it’s vile. After coming across numerous articles referencing GLBT murders, anti gay lynch mobs and most recently, the murder of  British envoy John Terry a couple of weeks ago, I decided to look up a recent article about Jamaican politics and Gay Rights from a Jamaican publication (get some un bias news/opinion). Of course, my completion of the article, naturally, led me to the comments section. And, the fuckery I was reading…Oooh, Lawd ha’ mercy! Homophobia is very much ingrained in the mentality of most, but not all and it was refreshing to see some dissent when it came to the anti-”batty” group think. Me being the big mouth I am, I had to chime in:

For those who preach against homosexuality, as if they have traveled the world and examined life from all corners of the earth, you are ignorant. Accept this fact, so that you can rise above and educate yourself. Your lack of knowledge and prejudice is a common plight and WILL be the demise of your beautiful country. For you see, hate no matter what you wrap it in, no matter whether you quote the bible or your favorite grandmother is wrong. It’s counterproductive.It’s the death of humanity, its destroyer.

Homosexuality is as natural as the beaches and blue mountains in Jamaica…and as permanent. Who are you to prescribe what is natural? You are human, flawed and immensely small. Same sex companionship and love occurs in many (if not every) mammalian species and other animal groups. Nature is a messy, complicated and unstructured thing and that is what makes it beautiful. Its variety. How small of you to sort nature into labels, and out of ignorance, declare something unnatural because you can’t comprehend it’s purpose. Foolish.

If you are God fearing then Jamaica should be trembling because if your logic is correct: he is infallible and his gay children are not broken. Your hate is a rejection of his creations and love. Your hate is a rejection of nature.

May the light of knowledge shine upon Jamaica and cast her out of her common and familiar darkness. Stay strong gays, your time will come.

Yes, I tried to bring it to church; although, I’m pretty secular. It just seemed like a productive root. Check out the JamaicanObserver.com online and let it be known that you don’t fuck with mother nature and you don’t fuck with gays. Anygaybaby…Please, spread some insight to anyone today…it could even be that attitude havin, eye rollin’ heffa workin’ at Dunkin Donuts…you know who I’m talkin’ about. Spread it like HPV.
