The Hose Is Closed…

TheHoseClosed

The Hose is closed and where are we supposed to goes (My Dr. Suess moment).

So the word is out: The Hose was closed. We aren’t entirely sure why; however, according to  Gerry Visco @ The NYPress:

“The rumor is that the Hose was shut down because the owner refused to renew the lease,” says Benjamin Haber, a regular at the bar who plans to participate in a farewell celebration and vigil on the sidewalk in front of the bar Friday night. “We heard from the bartenders and door people on Tuesday night and they’d heard the same night from the manager, who wasn’t actually too involved in the running of the bar. I was told the actual owner decided to not leave the bar to him anymore.”

Since its opening, the bar has been popular—singer Patrick Wolf brought a posse there after a recent concert and declared it “the coolest spot in town,” while none other than Justin Bond told a New York Press reporter, “It’s good to have a new East Village gay space.” Not good enough, apparently, as Haber says, The Hose might be closing due to its controversial events.

“I’d love to find out the actual reason. If the bar owner says to not renew the lease, it doesn’t happen in just a day, it seems like some other thing is going out,” says Haber. “A lot of people think that’s a devious explanation.

Whatever the case may be, that shit sucks major ass! It really was becoming one of the better venues in town with their creative use of space and totally chill attitude at the door, unlike other spots…

Ernie Cote is bringing the party elsewhere, Thank Jeezus. Here’s what he said:

ok kids.
so at this point going to mr Black after we leave a venue is tradition:)
for those of you who havent heard THE HOSE IS CLOSED
so in order to further your debaucherous and alcoholic predilictions, we are hosting at mr Black this friday.

Let’s pray there’s a place out there that will accept us with open arms and allow us to party like we want to!

Slow Down…There’s No RUSH!

TwinkRush

So it’s pretty much out, our beloved chelsea twink haunt…RUSH will be closing in 2 WEEKS! Damn. I guess the economy really has begun to take it’s toll on NYC Gay nightlife. See I told y’all…gotta keep it fresh. Now RUSH, opened a few years back after formerly being Heaven, which closed in ‘06 . This marks the venue’s 2nd closing!!! Wonder why the brief turnover rate; perhaps, it really is challenging to lure gays in with the monolithic SPLASH right next door. Still, they had a good run and really found their market with the 18+ crowd. From what I hear, management changed last year and with that some flexibility was lost. I remember the owners shutting down a Friday night party because it was “too much” to the boos and jeers of angry twinks and the upstairs DJ. Major misstep. And, why didn’t RUSH consistently have mid-week parties and promote them???? Whatever.

Rumors are swirling that a new party will take place at the venue and if it’s who I think it is…IT WILL BE GRRRREAT!

Still, I had some good memories at RUSH. I practically came into my sexuality there (no pun intended), all the fleeting hookups with ballet students and NYU nubiles…my chats with Dallas (the greatest Bouncer ever). But, hey..you got to grow up sometime.

VIEW Bar Closed?

DSCF0758

So I was driving to Barracuda the other day…parked on 8th Avenue, hit the lock button on my keys and started walking…

Suddenly, I realized the gates for VIEW Bar were like totally pulled down, lights all off  (it was 11:30pm on a Friday) and there was a Closed Notice on their door. What happened? Perhaps, it has to do with the whole me walking past it to go to Barracuda instead of them thing (repeated by hundreds of others). Howeva’, rumor has it that the Marshal shut them down. Hmm…

Shame. It was a great little bar, which lacked creeps (unlike some of it’s peers) and had great drinks, cute bartenders (anyone remember Jeffrey?) and pool tables.

Update: Apparently, VIEW Bar reopened on Monday. The issue had to do with an expired permit. Yayyy! VIEW Bar was missed.
